What is a Low Level Laser?
The Low Level Laser, also known as Cold Laser or Soft Laser,
produces a laser beam, which is healing to the body (as opposed to
a Hot Laser, which is destructive). Cold Lasers promote rapid
reduction of pain, accelerate healing time, and accelerate growth
and repair. There are over 230 positive studies done by 81
universities from 37 different countries that show a success rate
of from 80% to 95% when high intensity laser biostimulation is used
on more than 24 different dental applications, including:
tooth sensitivities
neuralgia
implant integration
surgical wounds
pulpitis
TMD
orthodontics |
periodontal disease
headaches
aphthous ulcers
scars
bone loss
neck pain
herpes simplex |
How does it work?
Photons, which are particles of electromagnetic
energy, are emitted from the laser. These particles enter the
tissues and are absorbed in the mitochondria, which are tiny
structures within the substance of each individual cell. The energy
is converted to chemical energy within the cell. The permeability
of the cell membrane changes which in turn produces various
physiological effects. These physiological changes affect a variety
of cell types including macrophages, fibroblasts, endothelial cells
and mast cells.
Through photonic (light) absorption, the laser light energy
converts into chemical energy, which results in a cascade of events
at a cellular level resulting in the following health benefits:
1. Promotes healing in many conditions because it increases the ATP
(energy of cell) and activates enzymes in the targeted cells.
2. Growth factors respond within the cells and tissues as a result
of increased ATP and protein synthesis.
3. Promotes DNA transcription and translation, thereby producing
healthy cell proliferation
4. Relieves pain as a result of increased endorphin (our natural
"pain killer" chemicals) release.
5. Strengthens the immune system response via increasing levels of
lymphocyte activity.
6. Increases local microcirculation and enhances tissue
regeneration.
7. Stimulates mitochondrial activity (The mitochondria are the
little powerhouses within each and every cell. Their job is to
produce the energy (ATP) we need to heal, and the energy that keeps
us alive).
8. Increases serotonin (our natural "feel good" chemical).
9. Balances the immune system.
What is most exciting about this technology is that it promotes
healing at a local site, produces no negative side effects, or
effects in the rest of your body.
How long are the treatments?
Treatments can vary in time from seconds to minutes depending
on the condition. Research studies show that there may be a dose
dependent response, so it may be more effective to treat at lower
doses at multiple intervals then to treat a single time with a high
dose.
How long does the treatment last?
A treatment plan may vary, depending on the condition. For
instance, an acute soft tissue injury or open wound may require
multiple short treatments initially, and then the interval between
treatments will lengthen as the condition improves.
Cold Laser Therapy is an advanced technology with boundless
uses. This therapy is totally safe for both the doctor and the
patient without any negative side effects. And, the Cold Laser can
be used with practically any kind of -itis or -osis you could think
of. We look forward to finding out how it may help you. |
